Motorcycle Safety A to
Z
You’ve heard me say, in
previous safety briefings, that the accomplished rider manages and minimizes
the risk facing all riders face. Usually these presentations address specific
conditions; temperature extremes, rain, heavy traffic, long distances,
whatever. In each, the rider can expect to be faced with some problem that
needs to be handled correctly to arrive at the end of the ride safe and sound.
We face many hazards pursuing our passion. So many, in fact, I’m sure there’s at least one for every letter of the alphabet.
Take, for instance, the letter “A.” - Did you check the air pressure in the tires lately?
How about the letter “Z.” Were you looking at your Zumo when you strayed out of your lane? Without going through the whole alphabet, I think you get the idea.
Managing the risk we face must be all inclusive. If we get even a little
lazy and let things slide, we give risk a greater opportunity to do what it
does best, get us hurt or worse.
I love to ride. I truly do. Knowing that I have done everything I can do to manage and minimize risk gives me the confidence and peace of mind to truly enjoy the experience. Sure, someday, something unforeseen may pop up and bite me. I can’t control the unforeseen.
I can control the ‘A to Z’ of safe riding and I’m determined
to do my best. I hope you will too!
